David Siegel - PULL

Just had the opportunity to listen to David Siegel's keynote speech - which to say the least was very enlightening and thought provoking.  David started his presentation by acknowledging that Web 3.0 is an evolution of the way in which we perceive and utilize the web.  He asked how can the web solve fundamental problems in business considering that we spend 53% of our time searching for the "right" kind of information - roughly half the time spent researching is spent on filtering information and deciding whether it is relevant.  While not providing an explicit answer, his position revolved around the paradigm shift of "pulling" information rather than having information being "pushed".

How do we "pull"?  He defines the dynamic as Semantic Web and provided 5 fundamental and defining variables for the Web 3.0 era:

 - having unambiguous content
 - having information that is findable and accessible
 - that information/data is interoperable
 - that information is not duplicated and move in the direction of modular data that is reuseable
 - that the data can be pulled

If Web 1.0 was about populating and pushing information onto the web, Web 2.0 as my partner eloquently describes is allowing users to react to that information.  Web 3.0 based on my understanding is how can the web become more user-centric and customized based on experience and preferences.
